Rino De Masco is a Neapolitan singer/actor/performer/mime.
His artistic career starts when he is very young, in 1981, when his mum Italia, his true talent scout, accompanies him to a TV program broadcasts by one of the first private TV channels, Napoli Canale 21. The program “Tombolino” later called “Coccolina” gives the chance to the young Rino to join the choir and sing every week,as a solo artist as well, his first cover songs from the pop Italian and English repertoire. The experience would last several years.
Towards the end of the 80s, he studies ballet with Gino Lemaire and shortly thereafter he is offered a job as a dancer in a Sunday TV program “Gran Bazar” broadcasts by the same TV channel.
His debut as an actor goes back to 1992 in the film "Baby Gang" directed by Salvatore Piscicelli in which he stars as "Bucaneve", one of the protagonists. His first theatrical experience arrives in 1995 when he co-stars with Adele Pandolfi and Francesco Silvestri in the play "Storiacce" written and directed by Silvestri himself and by Franco Zaccaro. The play has its debut at the Teatro Greco in Milan.
Among the most significant experiences he has had as an actor/singer/performer we shall mention the 1999 film "Voglio stare sotto al letto" directed by Bruno Colella starring Michelle Hunziker, Giorgio Pasotti,Rocco Papaleo and Mario Scaccia, music written by Eugenio Bennato. He would sing with his longtime artistic partner Nicola Vorelli the film theme song "Complicated tango".
Thanks to the 1996 musical "Gilda Mignonette" directed by Armando Pugliese with Lina Sastri, Fortunato Cerlino, Gigio Morra, Monica Assante Di Tatisso, Cesare Belsito, he goes on tour for two years, his first long term one, visiting the most important Italian cities and theatres. Due to this commitment he has to refuse the offer to join the cast of the opera "Iris" directed by Hugo De Ana at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome.
From 2003 to 2006 he collaborates with the Neapolitan artist Roxy in the Box, in several of her projects, and becomes her muse.
In 2004 Lindsay Kemp directs him in the musical "Amore di Tango - Il ladro e la milonga" written by Paolo Coletta, music written by Antonio Sinagra with Lello Giulivo.
"The five roses of Jennifer" is the English transposition of the play written by Annibale Ruccello that the director Sabina Cangiano takes to the Fringe Festival in New York in 2006 starring Rino as Jennifer and Franco Caiazza as Anna.
In 2007 Rino collaborates with two Neapolitan musicians, Renato Salvetti and Debora Russo, at the project "Centro Abitato". He writes the lyrics for the songs that are published in the cd "Doppia & Single". Lindsay Kemp is one of the several artists who join the project recording his voice on the first track of the album.
In 2008 he is among the actors in the short film "Ecce Homo" written and directed by Peppino Mazzotta.
Meanwhile he has already moved to London, in 2005, where for several years he lives one of the best artistic experiences he has ever lived. He performs daily as a busker in Covent Garden, in the London Underground, in South Bank and in different clubs around the city, among all the Below Zero.
At Notting Hill Undergound Station he is noticed by Brian Eno who writes a congratulations message for his voice and invites him to collaborate with him in his future projects.
Unfortunately Rino leaves London soon after and goes back to Italy where he still lives today.
Since 2015, in collaboration with Massimo Monfredini, he tours all around Italy with his themed one man shows. Traditional and modern Neapolitan songs, English and American pop songs, songs from the musicals, songs from animated films are part of his extended repertoire with which he gladdens the audience from fringe theatres, clubs, open air venues, private events.
